Over the last few days, The new virus has been spread in China. The hospitals of china were full of patients. The patients were suffering from flu. Many hopitals were overwhelmed in china as the number of patients were very high.
The biggets fear for the people was that , is it the return of COVID-19??
The name of virus is HMPV which stands for HUMAN METAPNEUMOVIRUS. It is also not the new one. It was already discovered in 2001.
From the experts it was stated that the HMPV virus was originated in birds 200- 300 yeras ago. Since then the virus kept mutating and now it doesn’t affect birds anymore.
In 2001 , this virus was seen affecting human in Netherland and it started affecting on human since then.
This virus have been active every season. When people get infected by this virus they think that they caught the common cold and after somedays it will go automatically. This was the main reason that it was called Anonymous Virus. This is respiratory virus thats why its symptoms are similar to common cold and influenza.
People who get affected by this virus can get a fever, coughing, blocked nose and difficulties in breathing. The evolution period of this virus is about 3-6 days which means it takes 3 to 6 days to start showing the symptoms.
Once you fall sick, the intensity of the sickness and its duration depends on how serious the infection is and also depends on your overall health.
Mainly children and elderly people can suffer more serious complications.
According to the professor from University of East Angila in the uk, Paul Hunter, almost every child under the age of 5 years has already had HMPV infection at leat once. After that, they get reinfected throughout their life.
The virus spread same like common cold and flu through the droplets that came when the infected person sneezes or coughs.
China National Disease Control and Prevention Administration has recently acknowledged that the respiratory infections are rising in china including the HMPV but according to the foreign ministry of china the scale of the spread of respiratory illnesses is lower than last year. As per Experts, the outbreak at this stage is not out of control.
In winter, Many countries faces a bad flu season where many people gets infected with the flu. Similarly , China is facing a bad HMPV season according to the Experts.
The world Health Organization has not classified HMPV virus as global health emergency. But they are closely monitoring the situation.
