Myanmar Earthquake update and International help:

Myanmar got struck with the huge 7.7 magnitude of eathquake on Friday, 28th of march.

As of now more than 2500 people are dead and more than 4000 people are injured according to the Myanmar's Government. The number of death toll expected to rise as the rescue operation is still going on.

Where was the Epicentre?

The epicentre of the earthquake was located at 16km northwest of the town of Sagaing, near Mandalay which is the second largest city of Myanmar.


International Help:

United Kingdom(UK):

The United Kingdom has pledged £10 million (approximately $12.9 million) in urgent humanitarian support to help earthquake survivors in Myanmar access lifesaving essentials, including food, clean water, medical supplies, and safe shelter. The funding aims to address the escalating crisis as families endure dire shortages and displacement.


Baroness Chapman, Minister of State for Development, emphasized the immediacy of the response “UK-backed partners are already working tirelessly on the ground to deliver aid, and this new funding will strengthen their vital efforts to protect vulnerable communities in their darkest hour.”



China:


China swiftly delivered critical emergency assistance to Myanmar on Monday, pledging $13.9 million in initial aid to support survivors of the devastating earthquake, according to state media reports. The relief package, coordinated by China’s International Development Cooperation Agency, included urgently needed tents, blankets, and medical kits and essential items for displaced families facing harsh conditions. Xinhua News Agency highlighted the effort as part of Beijing’s immediate response to help stabilize communities reeling from the disaster.



Japan:


Japan has deployed a specialized team of five experts, including healthcare workers, to assess urgent needs and pave the way for expanded disaster relief operations in earthquake-stricken areas. The initiative aims to streamline aid delivery as survivors grapple with the aftermath of the crisis.  


Tokyo also confirmed plans to distribute critical supplies such as hygiene kits, clothing, and other essentials to displaced families. Officials stated they are finalizing the specifics of the aid packages to ensure they address the most pressing challenges faced by affected communities.  

 


Russia:


Two Russian planes arrived in Naypyitaw on Sunday, delivering 60 specialized search-and-rescue personnel, four trained sniffer dogs, and a fleet of ambulances and emergency vehicles to bolster earthquake relief efforts, according to Myanmar’s state media. The deployment underscores Moscow’s rapid response to assist survivors as teams race to locate victims and clear debris in devastated areas. 



Singapore:


Singapore has deployed an 80-person disaster response team to support search-and-rescue operations in Myanmar’s earthquake-affected regions. The government also allocated 150,000 SGD (approximately $111,940) in initial funding to bolster the Singapore Red Cross’s relief campaigns, aiming to accelerate aid delivery to survivors facing dire shortages of supplies.


India:


India has also sent the rescue team to Myanmar including professinal Medical and military aircraft. India had sent aircraft filled with hygiene kits, food packets, blankets and other necessary equipments.
